    Hayman Reece style towbar on a S3 - anyone done it?

    HI all

    Has anyone fitted a 50mm square receiver style hitch to a S3 cross member? Has anyone grafted in a hitch from a Defender?

    The big issue will be the longitudinal link to the Defender tie down point which your SIII dosn't have. The Defender chassis curves down at that point where the SIII stays high at the same place.

    You may have more luck with the vertical receiver off the 110/County.

    This is my pintle mount receiver on my SIII FFR.

    They're about. I think Scott sold one on ebay a year or so ago.

    I had a look on the Hayman Reese website, but it does not list S3. Might give them a ring tomorrow.

    My series 3 swb has a 50 mm square bumper hitch type tow bar fitting. It's not fabricated by Hayman Reece though.
    Check out the pic I posted on this thread. The first two pics give a reasonable view of the tow hitch.

    Come to think about it, I have a 50mm reciever I took off a Stage 1. The receiver was about 2' 6" long, had a cross bar that was bolted through both chassis rails just in front of the rear spring shackle brackets and also aflat plate tat picked us the bolt holes for the rear tow plate/pintle mountings.

    It's been modified for one of my SIIB

    No photos.

    i did mine this way



    there is an L shaped lug on the the receiver tube that hooks onto the front of the rear crossmember so it cant flex etc etc so it is all removable
