    Gear stick.

Just been out for a run in the series 111 1975 LWB and the bloody gear stick snapped off at the base. Someone with poor welding skills must have bodged a repair in the past.
I managed with a screwdriver and hammer to knock her in to 3rd and drive the 10km home.

Now my problem is I don't have a welder or skills so I've drilled out the old weld and stuck a bit of rod in the hole so I can move the old girl.

Should I get the gear stick welded on again and risk a break down again or can I buy the gear shift assembly some place. If I can buy one any idea where I might get one in Adelaide quickly as she is my daily drive to work.

All help and suggestions would be great.

I am not familiar with suppliers in Adelaide, but any place that wrecks Series Landrovers should be able to get you out of trouble. Or someone in Adelaide who reads this may be able to help. Any gear lever except Stage one are more or less interchangeable, from Series 1 on, although you should stick to Series 3 and the same number of cylinders, as the bends are a bit different. Or find a local welder who will weld it. I don't think I have ever seen a Series Landrover which has not had it welded. Some graphite on the ball helps it live longer.

Well I think that I'll go with the welding option as it is going to be the simplest and quickest solution. And I'll keep my eyes and ears open for a spare one should the need arise in the future.
