Series IIA Non Synchro into Series 3 109"?

Hi all- got a good one for you!
I currently use my 1973 Series III 109", (The Camel!) as my Daily Driver.
This was bought as a Restoration Project and used as a Support car for a car rally after spending 15 years off the road, and has now done approximately 20,000 km since the dead 2.25 was replaced with a mild 186 K Motor from an HR X2, rebuilt as follows:
*60 thou over, Flat Top Pistons
    *Crow Towing Cam
    *Entire bottom end dynamically balanced
*Unleaded Head, Alloy Timing Gears, etc- basically, a sweet little unit.
This Motor was paired with a Cast Alloy Dellow adapter plate in a previous IIA 88 I had (before I pulled it out and fitted it with a 3.5 and LT95).
The motor ran very sweetly and suffered no alignment issues, all was/is ok- was checked for this issue when it was fitted to the 109".
    Now, the problem is this:
The existing All Synchro box in the 109" is, quite frankly Rubbish. It was treated to a set of Bearings and Synchro Springs prior to returning to the road, but that was it. No gearsets were dismantled, and evidence of previous ham-fisted repairs were uncovered. Current issues with the box-
    1) Alarming Rattle in 2nd Gear under Deceleration
    2) Light Metallic Rattling/Tinkling in 3rd while accelerating
    4) Jumps out of gear in 4th when accelerating- when the box is cold
    5) Absolutely Hoying oil out of the 3rd/4th gear Detention Spring Seal (full seal kit was fitted at re-race)
    6) The Synchros don't feel to be doing their job- clunks from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, 3rd to 4th. Clutch is disengaging- box Clunks into first when selecting from standstill, however if first selecting 2nd then first, she don't clunk...
    ...
And as of today, has decided it will not downshift to 2nd from 3rd- as if it's locked out! However- it will select 1st/2nd after vehicle comes to a stop. Which doesn't help much!

Now, this Box HAS NOT been Thrashed, it poddles on at about 90 kmh however I'm done with the thing.

Now, I have a really, REALLY good, quiet, IIA non- Synchro box under my workbench that has done next to no work, and is possibly the sweetest non-synchro box I've used.
If I change the bell housing to suit the later Clutch Assembly, can I fit the IIA Box to a 3? I've got a sneaking suspicion the IIA Box is a stronger option- and I'm not bothered about the need to Double Declutch- I'm good at it by now...!

    Any thoughts?
    Cheers,

    Alex

Yes you can swap the bellhousing and clutch throwout, so long as the SIIa box is suffix B or later. You should also swap the primary pinion. to match the throwout.

Remember the type of throwout is matched to the type of clutch pressure plate, so as you suggest keep everything forward of the bellhousing.

    Ive done it.

the most common fall over point is the front bearing for the layshaft, everything else from memory is a direct bolt up (but there may be some suffix combinations out there that have other hassles )

IIA box was always my favorite series box.
