    Nasty Sliding Seats

Does anyone have those horrible "luxury" seats on their series 3? I'm guessing added after the event - possibly early Defender seats?

I want the seat out so I can get to the fuel float - thinking the steering wheel was in the way so took that off and then the dang thing gets stuck on the handbrake! So then I thought off with the handbrake - but now I'm thinking just un bolt the top off the seat box which the runners are welded to. Wouldnt it be lovely just to lift a seat cushion!

I think they were factory fitted by then. My series 3 and 101 both have adjustable seats - similar vintage to each other, and neither has been modified in any way. A bit of a moot point really in my case as I have them pushed back as far as they will go so my belly doesn't hit the steering wheel...

The series 3 has a larger steering wheel than the 101, so it doesn't actually work like that in reality...

The factory sliding seats have lift out cushions the same as the non-adjustable ones. (Actually slightly narrower to fit in the fram, but same isea). If the seat cushion is not removable you do not have Landrover seats - all 90/110 and Defender seats also have removable cushions.

thanks John - I had a pull at the cushion and it didn't seem to want to come out - I'll have another look. Would be nice to know one way or another.

Post a picture of the seat, and someone should be able to tell you whether it is original or not, and even if not, someone may recognise the type.

    Seat

Definitely not a removable cushion John , the foam underneath the seat is stuck to a sprung frame. The frame sits on the runners which are welded to the top of the seat box. Good idea re the picture. I'll have a go at the bolts before I take the handbrake off. I wonder if there is a Series Graveyard somewhere with all the original bits. I'm missing front bumper / Grille / Seats / top cover from middle seat box + probably other stuff I'm not aware of yet!

pic attached - I'll have a go at the bolts as these will have to come off anyway - although I think the ones on the inside of the farside (if that makes sense ) will be b*stards to get a spanner on - so the handbrake well might be coming off anyway! I think I also have posted the same pic to the gallery - (trying to get used to how this works!
