    Diff oil for series111

    Just thought I'd treat my faithful series 111 farm ute some new diff oil ,just don't know what type , or if it's got LSD it's build date is 8th month 1977 , am pretty sure both diffs are original.Thanks

    No Series Landrovers came from the factory with LSD. The Manufacturer's specification is EP90. (Same for diffs, gearbox, transfer case, swivels, steering box, steering relay)

    I use EP75W90 which is more readily available than straight 90 and is less viscous when cold (thickens to 90 when it warms up).
    Try to get a GL4 spec oil, the EP additive in some GL5 oils can damage bronze bushes in gearboxes. The oil blender I use stated that their GL5 'should' be OK but then offered to mix GL4.......

    Yes GL4 is the go!
    I fitted a "Roamerdrive" unit approx two years ago and the blurb that came with it regarding oil use made good sense as oils have come a long way since the series gearbox and transfer cases were made.
    They recommend a GL4 and preferably a synthetic as the best oil for the job.
    As previously stated GL4 is not harmful to the bronze bushing in your gearbox and some of the "extreme pressure" additives can be!
