Thread: Behind and Under the Dashboard !!!

I have been looking for replacement section with no joy so am trying to source a replacement bulkhead.
It would have to be pretty bad to be as far gone as mine is and truth be told everything is re-buildable if you have the time and patience.


If it is not into the double skinned sections cutting out and replacing is simple enough.


How rusty is the dash pad tin and lower dash pad backing.

The dash pad tin is good, it's the Other tin that looks bad.... No holes tho... Maybe a good sand and rust killer?

If there are no holes then you should be ale to repair it easily enough. I'm not looking forward to doing mine - there is a hole I can fit a fist through - and that's the one I can see without looking too hard.

Whats the best rust blocker you use?

Most rust converters are the same basic ingredients. Many paint systems now have a rust converter/killer they recommend for their applications.
Give it a good scrub with a wire brush, KIll/Convert, clean, undercoat, paint,

Penetrol to stop it permanently, before painting.

Ranex for treating very light surface rust.

Molasses bath for removing every speck of rust completely,

I just went to Bunnings, bought White Knight rust converter, painted it twice and let it dry, then painted it with black paint containing rust converter, let that dry, then coated it in lanolin. So far so good.
