If you don't have a manual, can I suggest the "Rave CD" from "Shop" in the top bar of this page - it helps support AULRO. There does not appear to be one for Series 3, but this engine is covered in the Series 2/2a one.

All the Series factory manuals give step by step instructions for all operations.

Cool, I wasn't sure if and where the 6 would be covered because it isn't in a lot of literature I've looked through - even manuals that say 'covers all engines' in a series 3 book....

Is it available as a download? I don't have anything with a cd drive in it as these appear to be optional extras in computers and laptops these days. My work laptop has a plastic cover where the drive is supposed to be...

I don't believe so, but perhaps a message to Dave might clarify this.

USB DVD drives are readily available and pretty cheap - I have one I use occasionally with my laptop.

Yea u can buy remote DVD/CD drives, Dick Smiths and the sort have them. Not too expensive. So much for wireless technology though.... u end up with more leads behind the computer than in the old days

Thanks, but I'll keep looking for another option. My main device is my iPad anyway so no good to me really. I don't think work would like me using a brand new laptop in the garage with my greasy paws all over it and having bits plugged into other stuff isn't my cup of tea when it come to tech - it needs to be easy, compact and did I say easy? . I have an older iPad i can use in the garage, I'll just need to hunt down a soft copy if I find I need it - there isn't anything especially hard about the engine and I can always ask here or call Cookey if I get stuck.

Dick Smiths have just gone bankrupt, so maybe some cheap stuff around.

'This could be the end of the road for Dick Smith,' says Forager Funds boss

Thanks but it's not about the price of one, it's about what I plug it into? Either my work laptop (can't get that dirty and greasy out in the garage) so I need either a soft copy for my old iPad or a hard copy.

A little more progress over the last few evenings. We've been trying to do at least half an hour a night to keep things moving along. The last few have been fully stripping the engine ready for a full rebuild.

The plans of a quick freshen up have gone out the window, I've got the ball rolling looking for parts now. A rebore and new Pistons will happen now - just have to measure up the block then find out what OS Pistons are available and go from there. Likewise with the bearings. Although the crank is in very good condition, if OS bearings are available, I might get the mains and big ends ground. A new camshaft will be ordered shortly as well to Cookeys spec - a bit more duration and a smidge more lift than standard to make it breath a bit easier while still maintaining smooth idle and running.

While the blocks away getting done, we will get stuck into reconditioning all the sub assemblies, there's plenty to be goin on with. The head, rocker cover, timing cover and air horn will all be heading off to hydroblasting so they will look pretty good when it goes back together.

Cams phone went flat just as he went to take the pics, but it's basically a shot of what a 2.6 looks like when it's in pieces. still have to get the rockers and cam out yet, but that's about it.

Well, another 6 months and another report. At least there is - and will be coming up shortly - plenty to report on.

Spent another bucket load this week on parts so that we can keep moving forward. Tyres, parabolics, firewall, bonnet, steering box and paint. That's $2,500 quickly spent, but will allow us to get a lot more done.

The garage is all cleaned up properly with new shelving and a huge sort out - a big thanks to Chops and Mick_marsh for their assistance for a whole day doing this.

So, we have pretty much everything required now to get a full rolling chassis with all new parts, disk brake conversion, steering (Hopefully power steering - more on this to come) gearbox with high speed transfer case. Everything but a rebuilt engine and cab. The engine part of things has come to a halt while I work out which way we are gong here - reusing the old pistons or continue on trying to find an OS set - very difficult and very expensive. The only ones I've found are over 100 quid each and I can't get rings for them, so I need to do some homework on what rings I can make fit I suppose, but I'll concentrate on the driveline for the next couple of months and get that sorted.

Now I just have to do it all....

At least I can't procrastinate now with 'I need this before I can go any further' type of thing.

So, hopefully you will see regular updates coming up.

    Finally got something to report.

The new parabolics turned up, so we've made progress on sticking the rear diff back in - finally bit the bullet and changed the bushes in the chassis, so the springs are now hanging from the front, ready to roll the diff into position tomorrow night. I'll post a pic then, I don't think anyone wants to see a pic of a newly installed bush in a chassis...
