For those that haven't seen these works of art, here's some extractor porn...

It's a 3 piece arrangement, ceramic coated, beautifully designed and manufactured.

    Hi Bacicat.
I see you repaired the rear end of the chassis, using a arc welder.
    Any Tips.
What size and type rods did you use ????
I was thinking 2 1/2mm steel plate, using 2mm GP rods.
My cig arc can be set between 40 and 140 amps.
    Thanks.

Very close. It was 3mm plate, only because that's what I had lying around. That section I replaced was made from scratch. I made cardboard templates and folded them and taped them together. Once I was happy with that, I transferred the design to the steel and cut it all out with a grinder. Took it to my mates workshop and folded them up. Tacked the whole lot together and trimmed the end until I was happy how it fitted to the chassis, then just took my time and welded it on a small 'blat' at a time. 10 minutes with a flap disk in the grinder, some primer surfacer, a sand and a coat of paint later, and that's what you see in the pic.

I use 2.5mm Satincraft GP rods. Tried a few different types but I get a nice smooth weld with these, so I use them for pretty much everything I do at home. Not sure what amperage I used - I just fiddle with it until it feels right - maybe 60 amps? Not sure.

Ok, time to get this project back on track... Again...

Was dicking about with the rear spring pack trying to change the bushes, but after a near miss when the spring shot a chisel past my ear, I went inside and ordered a set of parabolics from Rocky Mountain.

Also bought home another engine for it - this one is a complete known runner, with everything we need - it was removed from the vehicle 18 months ago and replaced with a 186 due to low compression. So, between this and the other motor, I should have more than enough bits to make one good one. I might start it tomorrow before sticking it on the engine stand to see how it runs. I'm guessing the valves are a bit worn, but as a full rebuild will be happening, I'm not too fussed at the moment. It has a near new water pump, new filters, oil and plugs so giving it a run should be a snap.

Might send the head up to Cookey for him to work some magic on while I'm at it.

A very timely update i have been contemplating myself if i should refurbish the originals (badly worn so not that keen) for my SWB 88" or go with Parabolic. Also i am planning to have Salisbury axle at the rear. (Never seen 88" with Salisbury & parabolic's so kinda holding back)

Did you buy Rocky Mountains locally? I have heard good and bad things about RM as compare others sandersonleafsprings.co.uk, heystee-automotive.com

    Regards,

88's never had the Sals fitted, but it will go in. I ordered the springs online but they are closed until the 11th I think, so won't hear from them with final shipping costs until then. I was a little hesitant to go with parabolics as I've seen quite a few - of all different brands - sag, but this seems to be the odd one here and there, not an entire set.

    Time will tell.
