    Radiator Hoses 2.6 Litre

    Hello All,

I have never had to buy radiator hoses for any Series 3 before, or in fact any Land Rover before. How readily available are the radiator hoses for a Series 3 six cylinder 2.6 litre Land Rover engines? Are they a stock item in places like Supercheap or Autopro? Or are they now in the realm of a Land Rover "specialist" parts suppliers?

I checked the radiator on Batty, my latest acquisition that I have been preparing for its first start up. Batty was going when the previous owner parked it - you know the story Anyway, after filling the radiator up I noticed a stream of water which luckily was coming from the bottom radiator hose. I had a feel around and a bit of a squint and it seems the radiator hose is not only perished; it appears to be too short as well. I suspect a generic radiator hose was made to sort of fit by the previous owner.

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

You'll maybe find them listed in a catalogue in SuperCheap so they can order them in.
An LR specialist will carry them (4-Wheel Drives down here keep them).
Another option is to take the old hose to SuperChaep and try and find one that matches. I did this with my Series I years ago and found a hose that when cut down supplied 2 hoses I needed.

I've got to ask about the name of the Landy. Are you a "Biggles" fan??

    G'day Johnno,

Yes I am a Biggles fan! However, I bought Batty while I was legally blind and even though it is a misnomer I was "blind as a bat". Pretty deep aye.

    G'day Colin,

Thanks for the reply and the tip.

I wonder if there is an emoticon for falling off one's chair - in shock? I found a Land Rover supplier and the hoses are $66.00 each + postage

I also found out that the parts numbers quoted in my 1975 Parts Catalogue have changed. The numbers are now for the top hose 624363 and the bottom hose is 624364

    Kind Regards

The 4-Wheel Drives catalogue is a bit out of date but they list the hoses a lot cheaper than the price you mentioned.

I have to change the coolant in my FFR so I'll maybe do the hoses at the same time as I don't know their history.

    G'day Colin,

The hoses were listed as "genuine". I found the 4-Wheel Drive's price and yes it is cheaper. However, they only listed the top hose. No mention of the bottom hose the bottom hose being available.

I will explore my options further.

    Kind Regards

Ah, I wondered if Batty was named after Biggles' young chum who, unlike Ginger and Algy, "went west". I seem to remember that the poor young blighter pounced on a Rumpler below him and fell into a trap: got bounced by an Albatross or three and made it back to the aerodrome just in time to gamely breathe his last while Biggles gritted his teeth and cursed the whole damn business.

But, all the same, your explanation is to be applauded for its profundity.

    G'day Bacicat,

You have not obviously talked to the donkey, I am sure he would have a different opinion

    Kind Regards
