    88 CHASSIS PHOTO'S

Guys, anyone have a bare S3 88 chassis that they could supply some photos of? Many years ago in youthful folly I drilled a number of holes in mine in the hope that the sand blasters would be able to get inside a bit easier before it went for hot dipping. Don’t know that it helped in the end. I had originally intended to leave them there to make it easier to flush out after beach work.

Now however I’d like to patch them as I’m concerned about having weakened the chassis, if only from a legal perspective. I know there were originally a few holes in the top to allow wiring through but I can’t remember which ones were original and which I need to fix. So, if anyone can help with some photos top and bottom and of cross members I’d appreciate it. Size of original holes would also be useful.

Talking about the larger holes here by the way, abt 1 inch, not the multitude small ones everwhere.

    Cheers

    Lakey

Take a look at one of the UK manufacturer sites

    Series III

Even 1" holes in the centre of an element shouldn't be a problem. Think of the rails like an open web truss, its the top and bottom spacings that give it the strength and not whether the webbing in between is solid or open.

You can fit blanking plugs if you're worried about ingress.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Here's one, if there are any other angles you need I'll see if I can dig them out.

Yes that's what I always figured, but seem to remember a discussion on here somewhere regarding getting anything inspected by an engineer and it would get knocked back. That's why I was thinking about fixing, in case I had weakened it. Only about half dozen extra per side top and bottom. Figured holes I could see we're better than rust I couldn't.

Colin, if you have another from the front it would be good and similar of bottom, again if you have them.

    Cheers
