Reversing Light Requirement
Did my 1973 shorty come with a reversing light? I didn't think it did but was told yesterday on a registration check (ACT) that I needed one.
Any suggestions?

Have a look here; [ame]http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/vehicle_regulation/bulletin/pdf/NCOP10_Section_LO_ADRs_ICVs_1Jan2011_v2.pdf[/ame]
it explains what the each ADR is and also when the rule was introduced for particular types of vehicles; pg 35 is a good place to start.
Have a look at the compliance plate on your car and if number 1 is one of the rules on it then you will need reversing lights. Note that the Second Edition of ADR's applies to your car,
Cheers Charlie

If you go to the Infrastructure site and view the ADR 1/ you will find that by 1st July 1973 all vehicles less that 4.5 Tonnes GVM (other than minivans) were required to have reversing lamps. Earlier for passenger cars.
Addit: some very early SIII were not fitted with reversing lamps, to determing if your vehicle was originally fitted with lamps look at the back panel. If there are holes in the panel in the same place as the clear lamps in this Brit SIII, then your SIII had reversing lamps and probably still should have them.
