Yes that was part of the original equipment supplied with the Land Rover as new, cheers Dennis
Have commenced the restoration of a 1977 Series 3 lwb hardtop. The vehicle came with a Lightburn A2 hydraulic jack. Would this have been the original jack?
Thanks
Jim

Thanks Dennis, I now have to work out why the brakes work ok in a forward direction but have no effect whatsoever in reverse. I am thinking that perhaps the shoes have been incorrectly fitted by the PO. I note that there is no servo on the master cylinder, I understood that all LWB vehicles were fitted with the servo.
Jim
As I understand it only the 6cyl lwb had the servo fitted as standard. Hopeim right and this helps.
Cheers Rod

Front brakes are both leading shoe and won't work very well when going backwards. (Just found this out myself recently while pondering a rear brake upgrade). Rear brakes have one leading, and one trailing shoe so your back brakes should work in reverse. If you have nothing in reverse, I'd be looking at your back brakes first.
I think the 4 cylinders had a vacuum booster as well as the 6's - seen them in pics of 4 cylinders, and my 6 certainly has one. That's not going to effect your braking in reverse though, only how much muscle you need to use to operate them.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.
Hi,
As Bacicat said check the rear drums first for contamination, leaks, worn shoes, brake shoe chamfer and shoe adjustment to solve the reverse braking problem.
The back brakes often get neglected during servicing.
You can easily add a VH44 type remote booster if you want to decrease braking effort, they make quite a difference and are easy to fit.

Phil B
As the others have said. Check back brakes, may just be adjustment, but could be seized cylinders, oil on shoes, blocked brake line (perhaps intentionally as a temporary fix for a leak), or perhaps incorrect assembly. The brakes are never brilliant going backwards, however.
Brake boosters were standard on all sixes (I think) but were only standard on fours, even lwb, in late production, by which time they were also, at least in Australia, dual circuit.
