Thanks for the heads up. I'm sorry you've had issues, I hope your able to sort something out.

Hello All,
Not being a mechanic and knowing the necessity of getting carburettors to run right, I bought a fully re-manufactured Stromberg carburettor online.
The first one I had to send back because the top half of the carburettor would not screw down to the bottom half, because the top half was warped.
Well the replacement came and I have fitted it to my 202 Holden motor - it not a HQ carburettor - it is off a HZ! Yes I did SPECIFICALLY ASK for a HQ carburettor - mostly because the ENGINE IS OUT OF AN EARLY HQ!!!
So I fitted the carburettor and I now have fuel spewing down the front section of the carburettor and it is running down all over the exhaust manifold. This is despite "these carburettors have been bench tested ".
Rip off artists is what the mob are - I should have demanded my money back when I was first sent the dud "re-manufactured" carburettor which was warped![]()
Not happy Jan!
Kind Regards
Lionel

A small amount of grit in the needle and seat will do that. That can come from lying around for a while or introduced from the old fuel pipe. They're quick to unscrew and check from the outside. In any case there are only 6 screws holding the air horn on, just remove it and check the action of the float. It should be second nature to ping the top off to check these things, they are dead easy to fix.
That was my first thought too, the float not closing off the needle properly. Pull it apart and have a look.
Got the right fuel pump? Depending on the design, too much pressure and overload the carby too.
AND, of course, you've got the issues you suspect.
I'm sorry you're having problems. Carbies are pretty simple so there shouldn't be any problem getting one right.
Hello Crackers,
The fuel pump is the correct glass bulb type mechanical pump. If anything it needs an overhaul as it takes a while to lift the fuel if the engine has been sitting for a while. I am going to fit a correct pressure Facet pump near the fuel tank and blank off the old mechanical pump. I did check that the fuel pressure for the new pump does match the Holden carburettor.
The new pump has not been hooked up yet. A job for another week. I am currently working away from home and have only a couple of days at home to play - hmmm work on the Landy.
There is a Ryco inline filter and I kept the new carburettor covered until I was about to mount it.
The whole point of paying extra money for a re-manufactured bolt off and bolt on jobby was so I would not have to tinker with a carburettor - okay I thought I was taking the "fool proof option".![]()
Kind Regards
Lionel
Hello Crackers,
No, it is more the issue of paying other people to cover my own ineptness.
By the way I thought I was safe in the realm of British Mechanicals as the element in question - the Holden 202 was Antipodes-American collusion.
Oh well refer back to the first sentence in this message ...![]()
It could be some of my Irish heritage too - I knew I had Harpley and O'Brien in there - perhaps there is an element of the Murphy Clan and their associated "Rules" too
Kind Regards
Lionel
