managed to get the impeller off (in bits) but the fan hubs putting up a fight. Day 2 of heating up/ whacking with a hammer looms ahead. Day 3 will see the drill coming into play. I may just get a complete water pump or buy a separate Fan hub - but its a shame as I wanted to keep the original casing.

Does'nt rebuild kit come with shaft, bearings and impellor?
If not, hacksaw thru the old impellor. Smacking with a hammer :-(
Yer only on day two ya wimp. Ya gotta suffer a bit first
A quick search support's Gerokent's thought that you can get repair kits with the impellor, bearing and seal... at a much cheaper price than a complete pump.
From reading the original post, I understand that the impellor has been removed and it is the fan hub that needs to be removed.
Aaron
yep - drifted out the impellor reasonably easily - its the hub that's going nowhere. The kit doesn't include the hub. I've ordered a hub separately and I've also ordered the whole pump. None of my mates have a press. I've put a press on my list , together with a welder, and a bench drill, engine hoist etc . Possibly I could have used the original spindle & bearing. The hammers the cheapest option at the moment.

You can use a good vice and an assortment of pipes and sockets as a press and press tools. Do it up tight, then give it a swift clout.
My press is just a home made unit, using C channel and a bottle jack.
Aaron
A local machine shop or engineering shop will press it out for you in no time at all!
Cheers, Mick.
