My series 2a was fitted with a Frantz by-pass filter.
The filter is additional to the standard filtration and takes a standard toilet roll as the filter/element.
I believe they are reputed to do a very good job of keeping the oil clean.
The pick up was from a tee-piece where the oil light switch fits onto the filter housing and the return line attached to an extra bung braised into the side of the sump.
You can just see it mounted behind the battery in this pic.

I had the larger one on a hj60 a while ago, mine took 3 rolls. They actually take special rolls, but I did fine some cheap 2 ply toilet paper that was the correct size and type of paper at the time. I found it made a huge mess to change the oil filter especially as mine was three filters in a line so I ended up removing it and blocking off the feed for it and I decided just to change the oil more often instead.

The bypass or 'dunny roll' filters only filter only a percentage of the oil but it is very fine filtration. A full flow filter can't filter to the same level due to the back pressure it would create.

This is mine. Cant remember where i got it from but its good. Takes a z9 or a z89a. Z9 is a bit close to the chassis for my liking.

found a nice looking spring in my "springs box" baby bear! Put everything back together , filled it up with some Castrol 20w50 and now have a green oil pressure light that comes on briefly and then goes out as it should. Joy Oh Joy! Its not been working since I picked up the truck over a year ago. . Took it for a quick spin - then in the shed with a piece of ply under it to see if there are any leaks (new ones I mean) tomorrow.
Now for the Diffs/gearbox oil etc

My S3 has the spin-on filter adaptor which turns 90 degrees so that the filter points downwards just like the original one did. Got it from the UK.
THese people sell one RovahFarm for all your new Land Rover Parts and Accessories
(you have to scroll down a fair way to see it). They also sell the gasket for bolting it to the crankcase. You may have to purchase another oil pressure sender as the thread on the adaptor may be different to the thread on your original sender. I think I had to do this (it's been a while since I did this mod). Certainly reduces the hassle of oil filter changes, but if you think you can get away without oil dripping down your arm, think again...

Damn: I've just realised it is marked "NLA" which probably means "No longer available"
sent an email to the ebay link that Mike put up and they say no good for a 1974 2.25.
Paddock sell one but there's no picture of it and its a bit steep. So unless I can nail one from a wreck the Atlantic British one so far is cheapest. So far so good with no leak from the filter or sump. A big thank you to Rod for putting me right re the spring - otherwise the whole thing would have been a waste of time.
