I found these in James Taylor's book ( Land Rover Series 1, 11, 11a &111
they show the sliding joint to the transmission. :confused: I have the brochure the cut away drg is from , I will see if I can find it to get a better copy. I also have at my workshop a salesman's instruction manual I am sure it has some underside views. I will have a look next week.
Tim, the Haynes manual states:
"Note that the splined sleeve on the front shaft must be towards the front axle, while the sleeve on the rear shaft must be adjacent to the transmission brake"

I picked the firewall up from the blasters today, couple of horrors were hidden by bog

The damage is not too bad, I'm going to have a go at removing the previous patch, and replacing the rotten bit. If that all turns to custard, and doesn't look like a good strong repair I'll get a replacement A pillar repair piece. There is damage up by the where the check strap is, so replacing the A pillar "leg" may yet be the best option. Happy to hear your thoughts.

You can get complete footwell repair sections that make the job a lot easier. I've got a set here that I was going to use on mine but found a better firewall to use in the end.
Some footwell repair sections don't have the ribs in them so be careful what you buy.
It is easy enough to make one with ribs,

Don't the repairs give it "character"?? :):) If the repair at the bottom of the pillar is sound, why remove it? It can't be seen normally anyway.
I've had a bit of a look around for replacement foot wells, but as Chazza mentioned, they all seem to be without the ribs. I might un-stitch one side and take it to my sheet metal guy to see what he says.
