The 2.25 petrol 4 cylinder is one of the most reliable robust engines ever made, but I get your point - as a daily driver a diesel would be more suitable for some.

Sounds like you know what you want - good luck finding 'the one' and please make sure you post plenty of pics along the way.

Have a look through the 'Other-powered Series Land Rovers' section of the forum for ideas regarding a suitable diesel motor.

I've got one with an Isuzu C240 motor fitted.
Details here Isuzu C240 powered Series 3

Someone on the forum was looking at one recently with the same motor and I have come across maybe a dozen with the C240 fitted so it must have been 'popular' in the past.

Best of luck with your search

so the isuzu is one of the best,

i thought that only toyota made built proof diesel engine? (for example a 3L-code four cyl 2.8L)

(which one- type- version- year -model- range efficiency, and how much and also is it ecu-free and is turbo or NA etc?

can it handle multi fuel if when needed?

which one is more suitable for my build?

There's plenty of good engines out there that don't have a Toyota badge. You need to also consider front axle weight when choosing an engine as well as how it will mate up to the Land Rover gearbox. Reinventing the wheel here could cost you in both tine and dollars. Something like the Isuzu conversion has had all the hard work done for you.

so the engine i should put in a series should be one of the following:

first choice would be ISUZI 4bd1 4bj1t C240 (can some one please tell me which 1 is cheap and available and the specs of each one of these ISUZI motors and cost of each one and the cost of parts mating it to the series 2a/3 box (i just need a rough idea please

second choice would be TOYOTA engine: L3

third any thing else that is good for what i want for my build

any of them direct injected DI ?
    also not ECU operated ?
    which one is NA ?
which one is forced induction ?
which type of engines comes with a glowplugs and does not have a glowplugs ?

(which one is better or it does not matter ( for example if your car need glow plugs all the time to start but one of them dies an then it hards to start and then some engine where you dont need the glow plugs to start the engine you only need a good CCA battery to start it and some need it only the first start and after that its not needed

and also which one is better a rotary injected diesel pump or a parallel injected diesel pump?

I would be looking for what kits you can get to bolt to a series gearbox first and go from there.
4bd1 is a 3.9L 4 cyl, can be picked up for around $1500 for a good runner. Plenty of info on this site, suggest you have a search.
4bjit is a 2.8L 4cyl found in holden rodeos and the likes, can be picked up for similar dollars.

Have a look at the M&D Engineering site for conversions they do.
