Dash Support? & Thin Exposed Wire
More questions as I get to know my new S3.
First off is what appears to be a home made(?) dash support. I'm fitting some auxiliary power outlets to the panel (usb & "cigarette lighter") and this thing's in the way. You can just see where it's bolted through the bulkhead, then through the upper dash panel. Were sagging dashes a common problem, should I be worried about removing this?

Next, while running the wires for said outlets to the ignition switch, I was forced to take a peak inside the wiring. There are a couple very thin gauge wires, one of which is partially exposed and looks like it is designed that way. It appears to be clamped underneath the ignition switch & choke cable mount that clamps around the steering column. Looks like there 2 more wires that get clamped under there as well. I wasn't able to chase the wires past the mass of wiring behind the instruments. Can anyone tell me what these wires may be for? Earths of some sort?

Bloody hell, I can't wait to get into a new shed and permanent home for this thing. Then I'll be able to really sort out the wiring, there's so many redundant wires and dodgy connections.
Positive outcome from this job was that I was able to confirm where the stereo is powered from. It's off the ignition switch 'accessory' position, and I've now wired it onto a common spade connector with the new power outlets.
Thanks again
Donald
