The 6 cyl black was fitted with an electronic system called an EST or Electronic Spark Timing, controlled by a computer and an EST sensor that was triggered by magnets affixed to the torque converter on automatics. Just as a note, several of the EST sensors used to get broken because they were forgotten about when engines or transmissions were removed as they were fixed to the back of the engine block and passed through a hole in the bell housing. The EST drive plate was also fitted with a dowel pin so that the standard drive plates could not be fitted by mistake. The manual VK commodore 6 cyl was fitted with the HEI electronic distributor as was the EFI 3.3 black motor. The Blue motors were also fitted to WB model holdens and they had HEI distributors fitted also.
Cheers Rod
Note that the est sensor was only one of the inputs required to make the 3.3 black motor run. The distributor is easily identified by removing the cap and looking inside. All thats in there is a rotor.
See? I said don't quote me. The knowledge base here is awesome.
