Check the Fairey manual (you can find it online). I think there is mention of an assembly lube because this area receives sparse lubrication.

Got a new noise from the gearbox area. medium pitch shriek, sounds pretty much the same as a slipping drive belt. Happens in first gear and generally only when I start and drive off for the first time, after that it seems to behave itself.
I thought it may be the synchro in the Fairey OD, so took that out and put the end plate back in, noise still there and I'm certain its coming from the gearbox.
On there subject of gears, and whilst the OD is out, do the gears on this coupling sleeve look ok to the Gurus? My knowledge and understanding of gears is close to nil, appreciate any thoughts.
