Buy them, Tom.
See if they fit. They should.
If they don't, I reckon you could easily move them on.
We should have a door resto party at your place. I could bring a couple.
Hi All,
I have a Stage One V8 station wagon that needs restoration, and one of the things that needs replacing are the doors.
Clive on here is wrecking a County - and the doors are available for sale.
My question is - will the doors from a County station wagon fit (without modification) on a Stage One V8 station wagon?
I know that the hinges look similar (the square type of hinge, not like the old Series II hinges).
Are the hinges the same? Are the striker plates in the same area? Are the doors interchangeable?
I know that my Stage One has sliding windows - but the County has winding windows? I don't care about that - I just want to make sure that I don't buy the doors, only to discover that they don't actually fit...
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
GG.

Doors are interchangeable from 1958-end Defender production, except you may need to drill new holes for the striker plate - which may be different, and the door check arrangements were changed from time to time. Early County doors were identical to your Stage 1, but from about 1984-5 they acquired windup windows. From 1987, doors are thicker, and could cause an issue with elbows.

I'm fitting those to my stage 1 now. The doors fit and the hinges are the same in the same position. (These have lots of adjustment too) The latch generally fits the lower hole but you'll need to drill a new upper slot. Some toing and frowing I'm afraid. The door stop is much lower on the county and I haven't got my head around that yet. Seems the best option is to raise the county connection points to suit the series location since there's a stiffer section on the bulkhead with captive nuts there already. The seals are different as is the fin they connect to. If you change to county seals you'll need to modify the fin by removing the 90 degree fold at the end. The series seals rivet up to the fold in the fin, the county seals push onto it instead. I'm finding the old and stiffer lower seal holds the door out a bit at the bottom so that one at least may have to be replaced or renewed.
If you don't change the seals, you can fit the county doors with minimal impact on the series III integrity, just an extra hole for each door latch.
BTW, make sure you get the county mirrors too. Much better units, they're on the top door hinge.
