Series 3, 6 cyl, rover engine thermostat housing 😟

    Hi all,
I have pulled off my top and bottom radiator hoses, heater hoses and the short 90° heater bypass hose for replacement, as well as the fan belt and all filters. I noticed that the thermostat housing was a little corroded so I removed that as well. I am having trouble getting a replacement, has anyone purchased one recently and if so where from?

I haven't looked for any but if it's as far as water pumps go, they are very hard to find.

    Do you have a picture?

Generally you need to find an engine to purchase and hope it has a good one. Parts like this are getting thin on ground.

I have 3 engines, but only one good thermostat housing and water pump between them.

    Repaired it

    Hey Homestar,
I have repaired it using "Dynasteel Metal Repair". We will see how it goes. I will still take a new one if I can get one. I thought the water pumps were still available?

Water pumps can be bought - but you'll need to re mortgage your home. I picked up a near brand new one on a second hand engine for $100. They are repairable too if it's just the seal gone. 👍

Could you build it up with a metal epoxy or braze it?

Well Fergo hadd a trip down the freeway last night which doesn't seem to have agreed with his internals!! Engine stopped about 1k. Short of my exit so we rolled down the exit ramp and around the corner. Then flat towed it 1/2 km home. It was just a sudden flame out, no noise/crunching or grinding so I suspected the dizzy straight away. Pulled the cap off and hit the starter and sure enough the rotor has lost its will to spin. Pulled the dizzy out expecting to find the pin in the drive dog broken but all was good. So looks like some more internal investigation is required!! I was going to pull the exhaust manifold off and check the valves and try to slow the road lubrication system down anyway so just doing it a bit sooner now Series 3, 6 cyl, rover engine thermostat housing 😟. Will get some pics and keep you posted!
