Brake master cylinder roll pins - AEU1044

    Hello from Brisbane.

A quick question(s) on brake parts.

I am upgrading the brakes on my 1975" 88" and, after much AULRO advice, have opted to go for the dual circuit master cylinder from the later models. I sourced a 'new' TRW unit from one of the LR parts outlets in Victoria which didn't have the reservoir attached to it. This came as a separate part (Britpart unfortunately) which I also took as part of the same order. However, the two roll pins (part AEU1044 ) that attach the reservoir to the master cylinder did not come with either kit - so I need a pair.

The issue - the pins don't appear in any of the local supplier's catalogues. They are available from the usual UK suspects, but either at a ridiculous unit price or in bulk lots. Postage on this small shipment adds further pain, as does the new GHT (Gerry Harvey tax) on imported parts which includes the postage and handling .....

The question(s) - would these pins be available at a local brake specialist, and/or are the pins necessary? The second part of that question is basically whether a substitute nut and bolt alternative of similar length and diameter would be ok? I have long worked on the assumption that an engineer usually designed something in some particular way for a good reason.

I suppose a third question is whether anyone has an unwanted old master cylinder with the roll pins still in situ that they would be willing to part with?

    Cheers,

    Neil

If you have a sample go to a bearing supplier but it sounds like you haven't got a sample.
I got them to match my rusty old pins, only a few dollars for 4 new pins.

You just need the hole size the pin goes into and the overall length, I'll have a look and get the size if it helps.
I could also source the pins if you need.

I never knew what those things were called - now I know. The things you learn on this forum :-)

    Colin,

    Thanks for the prompt response.

Correct, I don’t have the pins.

However, I will head down to my local bearing supplier or a fastener specialist and see what they come up with.

While I am at it I need the securing pins that hold the brake and clutch pedal pins in the towers. Might kill a couple of birds with the one stone.

    Cheers,

The originals are a grooved pin that is deformed once installed but I've used roll pins to hold the pedal pins.
1/8" X 1" or something similar. Again a few dollars got me 5 or 6.

    Colin,

    Hello again and thanks.

I hadn’t taken a particularly close look at the tower pins when I removed them - thought they were solid. They certainly went to a lot of trouble to hide them when they were installed.

    Colin,

Hello again and thanks for the offer.

I picked up the pins at the local fastener outlet in Salisbury when I went past the other day to get some bolts etc.

    Cheers,

    Neil
