Uh, I had a go until it looked like I had to take all the instruments out to get to bolts that hold th black plastic container thingy out, which meant disconnecting everything first.... that’s when I went for an alternative solution. The dash seemed to be attached forward and down, onto the firewall, there’s too much old, amended and now disused wiring below the dash and oozing out from behind the instruments for me want to avoid messing with it unless I really have to.
have I missed something dumb??

I just moved the instrument panel forward to remove the dash top.
