    Electrical for Series 3

    Hi all,

I am looking for an auto-electrician that knows Land rovers well (specifically series 3) to do some work on my series 3.

I need to rewire the dash instrument panel, wire the dash to the headlights and do some ignition electrical work.

Can anyone recommend an auto-electrician in the Sydney area?

    Much appreciated!

    Zac

Welcome to the forum Zac. Some pics of your S3 would be great. To answer your question, the Series are not are real complicated vehicle from an electrical point of view so any competent Auto Elec should be able to help you.

    This may help http://www.rjh-heritage.ch/index_htm...%20Service.pdf
it is the Lucas wiring chart for their standard wiring systems for British vehicles it shows wiring procedures and colour codes for each circuit. Even if you don’t attempt it yourself you will have the original wiring diagrams for your vehicle to show the auto elec might save him time and your money.

As commented above, Series Landrover wiring is simple and easily understood. Any half way competent auto electrician should have no problems with it.

However, except for older workers, the practical details will be unfamiliar (after all, the last of these was built nearly forty years ago), and, let's face it, a lot of the connectors, switches, etc made by Joseph Lucas (a.k.a. the "Prince of Darkness") were not the best even when new, and 40+ years of time and unskilled but well meaning owners are unlikely to have improved matters.

Your main problem will be not finding an auto electrician who "knows Land rovers well", but finding one who "knows Land rovers well" and is prepared to touch another one with a bargepole, or alternatively finding one who does not "knows Land rovers well", but is intrigued enough to take on something different.

If using an auto electrician, expect to pay for a lot of labour. If cost is a significant problem, you may be better off to learn how to do it yourself.

you tube and a few tools should enable you to do the work yourself. just remember to insulate the connections and nowadays use heat shrink.

The tools and connectors will be a lot less than an auto elec
