Thread: What is this part called?

Yep it's a heater tap. You can sometime soak them for a while in WD40 or the like and get them moving again. Or you could try an old Ford tap that you can still get new if you have a problem sourcing a LR one.

Mine looked a lot worse than that one.
I pulled it apart, cleaned it up and reassembled.
I replaced seized cables with new ones from lawn mowers.

As noted before in this thread and over in a couple of others, the photos are of the heater tap that was fitted to the locally assembled Series 3 trucks - same as that fitted to several local cars including the Falcons and Fairlanes of the era.

What I will point out from the photos is that the small collar clamp that holds the outer cable on to the tap assembly appears to be missing - and the replacement taps that have been mentioned usually don't come with that part supplied either. So, unless you had taken it off and still have it, one way or another you are going to have to find that part if you go ahead and either refurbish the existing tap or use an aftermarket unit.
