    Turbocharging

Don't know if this is of any interest, but an excerpt from Overlander Magazine in 1979 on Turbocharging. My mate found it in his archives and passed it on.
    It's a scan of a photocopy, but it's legible.

Seems they did this as Toyotas and Nissans of the time had 6 cylinder engines, so LR made the Series 3 Stage 1 V8 and then the TDi 200 in the Defender.

I can't recall the year, but I suspect it was 1980 (when I purchased my third Landrover - a 1976 SIII LWB 2.25 - my second from ULR) and I was speaking with Jim Eglington about their turbocharging experiment. He said that too many crankshafts are breaking and I never heard much more about it after that.

So nothing's changed in 45 years then.

Their last solution was to go from 3 bearing to 5 bearing cranks in the 2.25 litre engines.

I haven't the heart to tell them that it's really a 2.25 turbo finally returning to Earth.
