    Wanted: series 3 doors Brisbane

    Hi all,

Chasing Series 3 door uppers in Brisbane, in reasonable nick. mine are completely eaten through on the inside.

also chasing a set of 3 x door locks/latches/key (driver, passenger, rear) - my locks are buggered and i'd really like to secure the old girl from time to time!

i know i'm asking miracles, but we can always hope!

    hi, miricals are us here...

I think Ive got a set of workable door tops you can negotiate with me for....

what part of the locks arent working and what type do you have? the pin push and twist ones or the ones with the arm that rotates down to lock the lever?

the locks are the lever type i think - they have a small lever in a curved track that lifts up on the inside? The driver's side is still functional, passenger side opens and closes fine but the lock wont raise. Rear door opens and closes, but the locking part of the mechanism is gone.

will drop you a PM about the door tops

More doors wanted for a LWB Ute

I need both LH and RH doors for a SIII ute.

Does anyone (in Greater Brisbane) have any they wish to sell, or trade for?
I can offer the bull bar from hell. ;-)

    Thanks

Swapping County doors on to a SIII

I see from another thread on this forum that "early" County doors will be a good fit on a SIII.

    door swap

Can anyone assist the search by defining "early"? i.e. If I look at a wreck's construction "plate", what is the month/year I need to find a vehicle older than?

    cheers

PS If anyone is wrecking such a County (in SE Qld) pls PM me.

'Early' is from 1984/85 through to present day. Anything with wind up windows really. I have seen ones in good nick go for quite big money tho. Watch out for electrolysis and rusted bottom frames. Wind up windows attract water retention and if the drain holes[if any] get blocked, they can rust badly.

All 90/110/Defender doors will fit Series 2/2a/3 and vice versa - except for issues about the door check device, which can be worked round. (there are at least four different lock/striker plates, but they are all interchangeable, even if it means drilling a few holes.

But! Windup window doors are of two basic types, the early ones with lift up handles, and the later ones with push button handles (87 on). Both are thicker than the Series doors with sliding windows, the push button ones a lot thicker, so that with the introduction of them, the outboard seats had to be moved inboard about 2", and a smaller steering wheel fitted (which may well be an issue with no power steering). This is the reason the early, i.e. lift up handle ones, are suggested. Don't need a date or a chassis number, just look at the type of outside handle.

The newer type are more durable - the early ones were not Landrover's best design effort, but both are a lot heavier than the sliding window doors, and personally I would not consider going to windup windows on a Series Landrover.
