    S3 SWB rebuild help

    hi All,

Commenced building a s3 swb couple of questions - chassis number is 90303307A - what year is this? There is no compliance plate as such. Any prbs with re rego when complete? Has a holden 186 thinking of going back to original? Can you galvanise the firewall or not seems like aluminum up top near dash, is the chassis worth doing. Cost is $4 per kg not sure of weight of chassis. will post pics later. thx

1972-1979. Sorry - not very helpful I know, but it's all I could get when I ran it through CLR CLICK HERE. Somebody who is better with deciphering suffix letters should be able to give you a better figure.

As long as your car is roadworthy there shouldn't be any probs with Rego. If it was previously registered with the 186 in it then it is probably still recorded in the system somewhere. Where are you? (put your suburb in your profile - no one cares where you live and it helps when giving info and offering help )

If you have the means to go back to original, do it. The Landy engine doesn't stress the drivetrain as much and are a dime a dozen.

You can galvanise the firewall, It is steel. The problem is that thin plate (footwells) does not like being hot-dipped and will ripple. If you can handle having ripply footwells then its no problem. Make sure you get it done somewhere reputable though - there are some horror stories about firewalls warping during the hot dip galvanising process due to poor procedure.

A gal chassis will last forever, and doesn't have warping problems like the firewall. The cost is dependant on how long you want it to last. Forever? Gal it.

The information I can give you is that in NSW 9030249?A were being sold in July 1973 and 9030289?A were being sold in September 1973.

My best guestimate for a vehicle 400 units after that would be a sale date in November 1973.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Unfortunately, no I can't tell you anything particular about that vehicle, it was a fully assembled UK built export RHD vehicle.

Going by your location if originally sold in Australia probably came through the distributors Annand and Thompson in Newstead Qld who recieved some/a lot of their stock direct from Solihull and not via the Lark Hoskings Group/Pressed Metals Corp assembly plant in Enfield NSW. The Annand and Thompson records have been lost and presumed no longer existant.

A guess looking at your serial number 992 it was probably sold in late 1972 or early 1973.

Sorry I can't be of more assistance.
