If you're talking Td5 Starter motor, yes there are three bolts securing it.
The two that you can see are 13mm and the third one is 15mm and you'll need a 15mm x 3/8" drove socket with a 150mm extension. You may also need to use a 'cheeter' bar as they are usually pretty tight.

Oops ...... didn't notice we were in the Series 3 area.

looking at it from the front of the vehicle....

use your 12 inch extention bar on a ratchet to get to all 3 and you can swing it from behind the exhaust.

Undo all 3 2 turns and you should be able to undo them the rest of the way with just the extention bar.

Remove the bottom and outside bolts totally, reach down with your right hand to support the weight of the starter then undo the top on.

now its time for landrover tetris.... Im not going to tell you the secret moves needed.....

providing your carefull and strong enough the startermotor comes out Upwards.

    From memory

pull it forwards rotate it till the solenoid is over the chassis
tilt the gear end upwards and as you push it backwards lift it AND rotate it so the solenoid winds up about over the clutch slave.

lower it down a little and tilt it out towards the bodywork then tilt it till you can turn the whole thing end for end past so the starter gear comes forwards of center

now it should just be a lift, turn and jiggle...

Its the same manouver more or less to change the izusu 3.9 starter motor.

Un less you have extractors like I do... No way the starter can come off without removing them

providing you have the first section of the exhaust following the standard original exhaust path.

Care to put a carton on that little fact?

If you are addressing me... They are 4-2-1 extractors, which only converge to 1 pipe below the starter.

But you are welcome to fly over here and prove me wrong. I will certainly buy you a carton if you can pull the starter without pulling the extractors.
