Thread: My dipstick wont fit....

I have the same problem with mine. It's a question of turning it as you insert it. There's a bit of a knack to it. Once you get it once, you have to remember the position it goes in. Mine has a bend in it that has to be put in with the outer part of the bend facing the head.

I had this problem with one of my previous vehicles, I found it worked if you shoved it half in and jiggled it about a bit.

Thanks to those who replied, I'll try more wiggling, but I'm not sure it will work.

I think part of the issue is that the dip stick "sleeve" that mounts to the block is very loose and can move between 3-4 inches (at the top). How would one tighten this without removing engine parts, gaurds to get it in there? or could I glue it or something?

I geuss the next question is should the sleeve be in front of, or behind the exhaust manifold? I'm thinking behind, but not sure as it moves so far.

Looking in my engine bay, it is just behind the downpipe as it comes off the manifold.

I have the same problem with getting the dipstick back in, it is a cow of a job and requires a little patience (which I severely lack!).

i have 2/ 2.6,s with the dip stick post in exactly the same place one slides in smooth no fuss the other could dowith a hit from a gympie hammer to get it in i put it down to landy engerneering or that the other landy is not as good looking

I knew there must have been a reason
