Question 1974 Series III on eBay,looks tidy.Same GBox as my Rangie?

Nice looking Series III on eBay,I am thinking of expanding my LR repetoire. These have the synchro box,is it the same as the box in my '83 Rangie?
Also.the vehicle looks tidy, but any suggestions from all you more experienced owners on what I should be asking the owner,as his description is farely brief?
Vehicle is here: 1974 Land Rover 4x4 - eBay, Passenger Vehicles, Cars, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 21-May-09 14:48:32 AEST)

I may be talking prematurely as I am unable to view auction sites from where I am ATM.

In short your 1983 Range Rover most likely has the 4 speed LT95 gearbox with constant 4WD, the same as the Land Rover Stage 1 (circa 1980), The Land Rover military 101 and the Land Rover military Perentie.

The usual Series III in 1974 had a compromise all synchro gearbox squeezed into a box essentially the same as all series Land Rovers from 1948, which had selectable 2WD/4WD. The later SIII all synchro boxes (circa 1977) were better than the early 1974 boxes, but it was only minimal and related to different ratios and a modification of the gearbox casing.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

If it was a stage 1 it would be the same, but the series 3 has a very different box, and it is a standard series 3.

As above. This has the standard Series 3 gearbox, an all synchro development of the original Landrover Gearbox of 1948, itself a slightly modified version of the box Rover introduced in 1932. The synchro box, particularly the earlier one, which this is if it is original, is generally considered less robust than the earlier one with synchromesh only on the top two gears, particularly the last version of it in the late Series 2a, but will perform quite adequately if treated reasonably.

Judging from the description and the pictures, this is a good example of a Series 3, although the interior is a bit scruffy.
