    2.6L Overdriive

    Hey
Just wondering if anyone has put an over drive in their 2.6L 6 cylinder Series. Is it true that the gearbox is mounted further back because of the size of the six? Does this pose an issue for installing an overdrive?
Does anyone know what gains are associated with putting an overdrive in the 6cyl engine? Is it worth it?
    Thanks,
    Cameron

The same overdrive fits as for the four - the lever mounting bracket (RTC7164) has two holes for the two positions of the lever (four and six) as does the link rod (RTC7161), these accommodating the more rearward position of the gearbox.

Same advantages with the six as the four, quieter cruising (except this is often nullified by the noise from the overdrive), slight improvement in fuel consumption, and provision of an extra split for 3rd and 4th gear for maximum performance. In particular I often find Low range 4th + overdrive when offroad enables me to stay in low range where I would otherwise change into high range, just to have to stop in a few hundred metres to re-engage low range. Just make sure you do not use the overdrive in 1.2 or R, as it will not last long if you do.
