Thread: cluch master cylinder

Fiddled around with mine yesterday. Was a bit tricky, even with the assemblies removed from the vehicle.

Previous owner had cut a slot in the box for the clutch cylinder, to allow side access to both nuts. Worked quite well.

The brake was another story. Had to stick an open ended 1/2" spanner up along the brake pedal (ie. from inside the cab), and could just hold onto the bolt head on an angle.

Would be a 2 person job if it was all in the vehicle still.

Remove the whole assembly from the vehicle is the easy way of doing it. Undo six bolts and lift it out, turning 90 degrees on the way.

Easiest way is to take out the entire pedal box, as was said before, just watch the wiring loom as you take it out as it runs down the side of this. If I remember rightly you have to take the wing off a LHD.

just bought a new master cylinder and, low and behold, i cant get those 6 nuts off the pedal box. probably never been removed.. i sprayed em last night with wd40 but they won't budge...... any suggestions on how to tackle these bad boys?? keep on with the wd40 each night??

(i figure it will be too awkward to get an angle grinder on the nuts, and will cut a hole in the side of the pedal box as a last resort..)

Can you saw through them with a hacksaw blade; either longitudinally or across the diameter?

A hydraulic nut splitter can also be handy; Sykes Pickavant make a good one,

its a bit tricky but

1. remove the pipe from the MC and ensure that the MC is drained of all fluid.
2. Remove the pedal return spring
3. slide a ring open end spanner up in front of the clutch pedal and get it over the nut (or bolt depending on how it was put together) inside the tower.
4. position the clutch pedal so that the arm just touches the spanner and zip tie the spanner to the pedal.
5. wedge the pedal with whatever works so the pedal cant move either way
6. using a 3/8th inch drive socket with a short wobble bar or a narrow profile universal joint undo the bolt (or nut depending on how it was put together)
