Got some advice from my grandfather, used a better tool and some more WD40, did the trick

Thanks all for the advice though - it all helps...

Amazing what a good soak in WD40 will acheive - I had some nuts that wouldn't budge, sprayed them (read drenched) and a few days later they were loose.

A bit of heat can help too.

Six months since my last post??? Disgraceful!

I really dropped the ball here - had heaps of uni & was (am) overseas quite a bit, so poor Buttercup has been sitting & gethering rust. Literally

I really need to get her sorted out asap, the major issue I have is time but I also lack experience - if anybody needs an extra pair of (free) hands on a series vehicle around Sydney please let me know and I may be able to help! Hopefully I'll be able to assist Mark/Andrew later this month, let me know guys...

    Cheers Dave.

    Dave mate,
Don't worry about a lack of experience. Everything I do on my Landy, I learn as I go. Although often I learn the second time No excuse there I find having cheap or innapropriate tools is my biggest hurdle.

This Saturday, Shonky is coming over and you are welcome to as well, what work will be done depends on what the head reconditioners want to do about their mistake, but there is always more stuff to work on.

    Hey Dave,

I am in the same boat mate. But experience has to come from somewhere, it's whats learning is all about. I haven't been stripping motors, patching chassis' or doing anything major, but have learned a bit from just poking around and reading the bible.

How much is on your list to fix?

    Cheers,

    Sam (another inexperienced series youngster)

Ditto everything Mark and Sam have said.

Don't be afraid of a lack of experience - Just read the manual, ask the dumb questions, take pics, post it up... and if after all that you have ****ed it up then someone will very quickly tell you! At that point, you go back and do it again having learnt a lesson for life.

I don't think I have openly admitted this on the forum yet, but I have a horrible feeling that in the rush to get Gus ready for ABD '09, I think I forgot to Locktite the flywheel bolts.

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't want to find out the hard and expensive way.

    Sigh... engine out again.

lol thanks guys - I'd come on Saturday but I'm in New York until August 14th (and uni started a week ago ). I'd love to help sometime soon though! Sam - nice to meet you, sort of - I've got to go over the list, thankfully there wasn't too much the last time I checked...

    Just a quick update;

A few days ago I (FINALLY) put the replacement axle/diff setup in. If I need to take it out again I'm buying a new LR . Drove around for 15 or so minutes using only the front propshaft - need some diff oil for the rear - and all seems to be surprisingly ok! The brakes need to be reconnected & bled, the odd spot of rust needs to be taken care of and then most of the remaining work should be cosmetic. But I'm sure something'll happen

I'll post some pics in the near future...
