It also depends on what repairs need doing. If you are replacing a whole crossmember, etc then someone will notice, but if you just need to put patches in then you can do that so no one will be even to tell where you have been.
I've been contemplating this situation myself as the gearbox crossmember on my Series III is stuffed and will need replacing. My mate - who is a boilermaker - will be doing the repair, but as I'm only doing a preservation, not a restoration, the chassis isn't going to get painted in full, so it will be obvious to whoever does the RWC will notice it. I suppose time will tell.
I suppose a few rattle cans of satin black paint and I could get to most of the chassis, so who knows...![]()
