    series 2a rear recovery point

being a bit new to series ownership, I would like to know what people are doing for a rear recovery point.
my little 2a shorty has the normal dropper plate bolted to the rear cross member with a tow ball attachment bolted to the lowest position, the one with the two tongues and the tow ball only fits to the top tongue and you cannot fit a decent shackle to the bottom one.
it is the funny double tongue thing with the odd bit of angle iron welded into it, sorry I don't have a picture, but it is very common on these vehicles.
I presume it was originally designed for a farm implement tow with a drop in pin.

as mine is bolted as low as it can be I thought that just removing the tow ball and attaching a shackle here would suffice, but the tow hitch is mounted so low [normal as I can see from other peoples cars] that the angle for a recovery would cause a fair twisting moment on the cross member.
any suggestions, have you done a decent rear recovery point for a s2a?

make up a plate with a lug that uses the 4 bolts that hold the drop plate in place

i reinforced the front of the rear crossmember with 8mm plate to make sure it was going to 100% capable.

I use hitch points like these with plating through existing mount points or by drilling in a suitable strong location on the chassis

I would check the SWL on that. If it has a 16mm mounting thread, then it is probably only rated at 700 kgs. I have several 20mm ones as tiedowns on my trailer and they are only rated at 1.2T.

sling some 8mm chain around each of the rear suspension shackels in a pinch, get a nice long one secure with a claw at each end in a small loop around the shackle and then pull from the center of the chain.

If it is the hitch I am thinking of then there is a pin that is supposed to go through the two plates and I think that can be used as a recovery point.

mine is the standard thing that looks a bit like that, looks like I will have to remove the towball.
