    VIN and chassis numbers

    Hello all.

I have been restoring a Series Three Stage one V8 (not a mock stage one either) for a few months and have gotten it to the point where it can almost be registered again.
My main concern is that I have found a plate on the bulkhead inside the engine bay with what looks like a VIN but the general layout of the plate looks different to what is labelled in the owners manual. For example there are no weight specs on my plate.
Secondly, my door frames have a fair amount of rust in them and i have considered pulling out the MIG welder to patch it up but hate the idea of folding out the edges of the aluminium door skin for removal of the frame. I'm thinking it's probably best to replace them. I have seen a company on the internet called SP who make them new but all the prices are in pounds. Has anyone in Australia tried buying these doors and if so how much did you spend? Are they a good fit?

Thank you in advance for any help and advice.

    Regarding the doors :-
The exchange rate is less in our favour at the moment and remember that you will spend at least the same again in freight charges.

Removing the skin is straightfoward if a little scary the first time you do it, just lever up with a screwdriver or chisel. I then used a panel beating hammer & a sandbag to re-fold the skin after repairs were carried out.

Can't comment on your VIN number. When did VIN come in ? All of my Series vehicles have a chassis number (rear spring hanger) and the plate on the passenger side of the bulkhead.

The VIN plates were introduced during Series three production, and it is quite likely that the format used on the early plates and that printed in the book would differ. Possibly the best idea would be to post a picture of the plate for comment.

    Does it look like this?

This is the compliance plate. It lists the ADR's it complies to, model, No of cylinders, VIN, GVN, seating capacity and build date.

    Cheers guys.

With the doors, did you have to heat up the aluminium before bending it? I just have a fear of it cracking up haha.

Yes that is what my VIN plate looks like thank you.
