The most satisfactory way of fitting ROPS to Series (or Defender) is to provide a lower section that bolts or is welded to the chassis and terminates in a flat plate against the bottom of the side seat section of the tub, mating with a matching plate on top and throughbolted, with the actual ROPS welded to this upper plate. A minimal system would require four such attachments for the hoop and diagonal bracing. The major advantage, as I see it, is solving the upper seat belt mount issue for a soft top, but because of the need for engineering and one off fabrication, it is going to be expensive, and probably take a significant amount of space.
Except in competition, my experience over nearly sixty years of driving Series Landrovers is that rollovers are extremely rare. In fact I don't think I can recall a single example I have seen or has happened to anyone I know or know of.
