No awesome idea just trying to create 2, 2a,s have three chassis
    Two 2a and one 3
3 is reasonably sound ,the others one has rust bad from engine mounts forward and the other (military chassis) has sound front end but cactus rear cross member. I,m a bit hesitant to cut and shut with front end of chassis , but happy to do rear x member
As stated above numbers are numbers and salvaged number for 3 will be from remnant 2a chassis bound for tip sans numbers
thanks for input I thought everything was interchangeable and I did notice 2a chassis is more robust but rust is rust
    Looking at a 1965 series 3

    I thought the series 3 was from 71? A 65 is a 2a? Not 100% sure though....

I think Land Rover put out a limited amount of 2a's on the new improved futuristic series 3 chassis as a R&D project ....you did not hear about it they are very rare
    Nuff said me thinks

VicRoads don't always know what day of the week it is so they won't pick up on the chassis details but a roadworthy tester might ? Again, I think it's unlikely.

Main difference that seems to cause minor problems is putting a SIII gearbox into a SII chassis so doesn't affect you.
    Series IIa

Rest of the changes are fairly minor.

One that has a current mention in another thread is that the diameter of chassis bushes changed at Series 2a suffix H. There will be a few other differences of this sort, but nothing that can't be dealt with easily.

Yes. '65 is definitely 11a and I believe '71 is correct.

I think you already had the idea but if you are going to scrap a chassis, destroy the numbers on them.

With a LandRover anything is possible, Heres a 110 CSW on a Perentie Chassis with a Series 2 firewall . Don't see any padded dash here. (when I say LandRover , I mean proper LandRover which is only includes vehicles with PCD 5x165, yes I'll concede & allow in RRC & D1 )

Also LandRover Series 3 Lightweights up till 1985 have no Padded Dash & fully ADR compliant in Australia .

picture is my 1973 Series 3 but last of production in 1985 are basically identical.
