Just covered the first 100 miles since head gasket replacement, so before the engine cooled I checked the torque of the head bolts and found only three bolts moved. The gasket seems much better than the copper gasket I originally installed. The bolts advanced approximately 15 degrees from initial setting.

Did you install the composite gasket dry? or did you use a sealant?

Also I was impressed by the technical advice I received from Allfourx4 when I sort help.
I have since driven the vehicle 20 miles through bush roads to settle everything down and will check torquing tomorrow after I warm the engine up.

On my 2.6 I was going to install dry but because of discussions on the forum at the time I used Permatex around the oil & water galleries. Gasket was composite which are apparently now NLA.
I've always installed dry with solid copper on motorcycles (annealed first), composite or copper wrapped on cars.
I do remember mates using setting sealants (green Hermetite) back in the day but usually as a bodge or when re-using a head gasket ?!

Just looked and no pictures of my gasket being installed FFR Refurb

To be fair it hasn't been run on-the-road only regular startups and driven round the property but no issues so far.

Just collected a 2.6 motor in bits and another to follow, just need to find some NOS composite head gaskets as only steel shim type are currently available.
