Which Series LR brake rebuild parts?

    Hi all,

My IIA has Series3 6cyl axles under it which need the brakes to be sorted.

Just wondering, is there a prefered manufacturer for the brake slave cylinders etc? eg is a pattern part ok or not so much, or is Delphi a good option? or should I be looking for the OEM which I think might be TRW???

Or is there a recommended rebuild/replacement kit?

No fussed as to where I buy it, just looking to fix the brakes but hoping to not use parts that will require replacement again in a years time.

    Thanks for any assistance.
    Cheers
    Slunnie

It looks like KLR sell Delphi.

The term OEM is misused by most suppliers.
It would have probably been Girling back in the day, they were taken over by Lucas and TRW is TRW-Lucas so at a stretch you could say OEM.

I'd use Delphi or TRW over Britpart or a noname part. Although.... I've used noname parts in the past and they have been OK but others haven't lasted that long.

Have you considered converting to disc brakes. Cost effective solution and much safer and more reliable

TRW are my first preference for brake stuff - had terrible experiences with pattern parts.

Thats all for your advice and recommendations.

It has been an interesting search, it seems you can find anything for the 6cyl rears, including TRW, Delphie, Britpart and pattern parts.

However the fronts seem to be only Britpart or pattern parts which is disappointing. I think I might just have to suck it and see how it goes.

Ron I may end up just getting the parts from KLR at the end of the day with Delphi rears and pattern fronts.

Goingbush, I really like your brake kit a lot, like a huge amount. I also wondered if the County disc conversion would work on the Series Salisbury for a full disc setup. I'm hoping for this jigger to go on to club rego so need to keep everything standard. Mind you, this may get thwarted as it has a 202 in it.

I got Delphi 6-cyl fronts from somewhere, probably Paddocks but they aren't listed now.

Found them at Famous Four. Wheel Cylinder (FF004400) for Land Rover Series IIA/III
I'm sure other UK suppliers will have them.

Club rego should be ok with discs.
In Vic I have my 49 Dodge ute on club reg , only mods are seatbelts, indicators and 4 wheels discs , they put it on M plates (modified) instead of H (historic) but the cost , logbook and all the rules are the same.

County disc conversion wont work on a series Salisbury.

    Does that require engineering?

Thanks for the search Colin, greatly appreciated! Interestingly the 6cyl and V8 share a common front brake and use a different slave cylinder to the other 109 and 88 Series. Im assuming this is because of the wider front drums which was unique to them.
