In Vic I have my 49 Dodge ute on club reg , only mods are seatbelts, indicators and 4 wheels discs , they put it on M plates (modified) instead of H (historic) but the cost , logbook and all the rules are the same.

County disc conversion wont work on a series Salisbury.
Thanks! Thats an interesting point that lead to a bit more research. You're right, itll have to be "Classic" registration in NSW, which is the same as your M plates, because it already has a 202 in it.

it does on the 49 , but 48 and earlier it does not.
The 49 dodge was already engineered for full rego, I did not have to get it re inspected to switch to club reg as the compliance plate had brake upgrade codes.

    Hello Slunnie, and other contributors,

I deliberately bought what was advertised as the three initials company's specific OEM version. The rubber boots leaked within a fortnight on one brake wheel cylinder. I think there is a uniform level of rubber ain't what it used to be with any manufacturer. It is just luck of the draw. One wheel cylinder of a complete set drew a dud.

Oh, and the replacement brake snails by one of the 'better' suppliers were made out of playdonium - worthless bits of poo. A previous owner hacked the original snails. Otherwise I would have tried to renovate the old ones. Nothing like disassembling and then reassembling a corner of a vehicle to find out that things are not as they should be. A real 'not happy, Jan!' moment. This was further heightened to see a trail of newly filled brake fluid on the inside of a tyre a couple of weeks later after work had been completed using only new parts throughout the rebuild.

    Kind regards
    Lionel

As mentioned before, the term OEM is misused by most suppliers.
If you buy a 'name' brand like Delphi or TRW you get a more reliable quality product.

With some items you have no choice, the 'OEM' suppliers are long gone so a pattern part has to be used.

Longevity is my worry. I managed to buy TRW rears but the fronts are Britpart which worries me a lot. The 6cyl front wheel cylinders in a good brand have been elusive and GoingBushs front disc setup has really been tempting.

I'm hoping not to have the same issue Lionel. Fingers crossed as they and Delphi are probably the best options of the lot.

    Hello Colin,

I was attempting to be subtle and not get into a possible 'name and shame' situation. Let me be a little more direct ... the brand name was made up of three initials only .... and they were OEM.

    Kind Regards

I find that unusual as they are much better quality than **itpart.

They aren't exactly 'OEM' but they have taken over an OEM manufacturer. TRW were an American company but there have been a few changes of ownership, currently owned by ZF I think.

I remember with older wheel cylinders that the pistons were hard chromed.
The modern ones are just chemically blacked steel.

There's an awful lot of knock off parts out there. Things that come in quite convincing boxes etc. Would Series LR repairs have reached the volume to make such a thing worthwhile? Possibly.

    Hello Colin,

Yes, that is why I deliberately chose that brand. I had good experiences with them before. The set of wheel cylinders was an import from the UK too. Hopefully a set of new seals with better rubber will solve the issue. That particular vehicle has slipped down the order of priorities anyway. Other projects have since taken its place in the queue.

    Kind regards
    Lionel
