from what i heard they were pretty good, not many around.
I just got a rover motor from the tip the other day and the fellows in the general forum helped me identify it as proberly a series 2 2ltr diesel. Just wondering if any one is running one of these or has and what the motor was like, reliable, dont care about speed just if its worth putting money into, its in fair nick and only cost $10, any info would be great thanx.

The 2 litre diesels in running condition are as rare as the proverbial hens' teeth as are their parts.
You would be better off getting a SIII 2.283 litre diesel and offering the 2 litre diesel on Ebay for someone who is restoring a vehicle the engine is correct for. You may be surprised what you sell it for.
You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
if your lucky you might double your money
Pretty good sounds alright as long as there were no major flaws, dont know about selling it have a 2a could throw it in, its just got a buggerd red motor in it, suppose if it coverd the price of a 2.25 ited be a thought, is the 2.283 just the more accurate measurement of the 2.25 or actually a bigger capacity rover motor, just taken years to get a rover d motor for the right price and thats as good as it gets, have to give it some thought.
As Diana said - while the 2 litre engine was a major advance in its day (how many other 1956 diesels that size do you know of?) and is generally similar in design to the 2.25 engine, it is noisier, less powerful, early models had teething problems, including broken crankshafts, and parts are scarce as hen's teeth. (Although very similar to the later engine there are few parts identical, and not many more interchangeable)
Anyone wanting one for a restoration (original probably replaced by a 2.25) would probably pay $100-200 for it and maybe something approaching that just for extra spares if actually running one. Problem, of course, is there are probably not many people looking for this.

double me money $20, i am on my way to the top ha ha, used $20 worth of sweat getting it in the back of the cruiser.
i did not know you buy sweat, did you put any photos up of it
YA thats me main thought if its not worth much it would be just as nice to have a piece of rare rover history under the bonnet, if i was willing to fix it over a couple a years, hard to see what way to go i have a habit of not following common sense. rather see it in me shed complete than canibalised and scraped if there rare i suppose.
if you were going to do it up and put it in the correct vehicle and the vehicle was in mint condition it would be a a very sought after car and worth a few bob
