Dual Cab Defender for around $15k?

    So Defenders aren't just Defenders?
I don't know much about them but since owning a D3 I have noticed plenty on the road & really like them & from what I hear are great offroad.

I was looking to buy a Diesel, dual cab defender for around $15k for use as a work ute during the week & a family offroader on the weekend. Creature comforts are not expected.

What model/year should I be looking to buy for around this price?
    130 or 110?
    TDi or TD5?
Or is it a waste of time looking in this price range?

    Thank you,

Up until this year we didn't get 110 dual cabs in Australia, only 130s. You won't find a TD5 for that price. You will be able to get a reasonable, usable Tdi, but it won't be perfect. Expect to have to spend some time and money on it within the first 6 months.

I recently (last few weeks) placed a bid of $20,000 for this one

The winning bid was in the high teens.
I didn't have the winning bid. Go figure?
Early MY2000's unregistered Dual Cab Defender TD5's with under 100,000km at the auctions are fetching between high teens and mid twenties at the moment.

Which auctions are you refering to? I have a similar budget and have been searching for a single cab 110 for a while, but in the past 6 months or so have only seen 1 with the TD5 engine come up for sale?

    Thanks

Heres 2 mate for sale in WA... not sure where you are... But I guess QLD?

They have both been on sale for at least a month. I think one of them for maybe longer. I have actually seen and test driven the second one as well and its not at all bad. Only reason I didnt get it is because it was a tray back and I wanted the wagon.

    See how you go there...

I was thinking of getting the Defender to tow the thing on the trailer.
Oh, and we must catch up and talk further when you get back.

bv73. I'll keep an eye out, any idea's on price range yet?

So it looks like a TDi between '95 & 2000 in the high teens to mid twenties. Unless you are lucky enough to come a across a cheap TD5? Looks like I'll have to save up a few more bucks.
    - Is there a big difference between the TD5 & the TDi?
    - Are all models the same mechanically in this range?
    - Are we all like seagulls when one comes up for sale?

GCONRAN, The one with the canopy looked pretty good but sold & about as far as possible from Brissy. Be a good return test drive

Marshall, Good web site. Thanks. If I get one, those guys would be pretty handy I recon.

Mick_Marsh, Do you mean they are just scattered through all of the car auctions or one in particular?
