The oem hitch on the D4 is much improved over the D3.
This means you should only have to buy the tongue insert & ball.
Believe it or not I found the oem insert to be cheaper than a 3500 kg rated one from hayman reece!!!
    I have retro fitted a D4 hitch & insert/tongue for my D3.

I am not sure which is the best brake system however be aware that if they are not wired right they can be problematic.

    Regards

    Chuck

Roger, I have stuck with the standard D4 hitch set up. Its fine with my boat and trailers. Not yet towed anything and found the OEM a problem.
    Cheers, Craig.

If you plan to tow off road then you will need a mitch Hitch.

    Hi Rogngab,
I did alot of research into hitches for the D3 and found the mitch hitch to have the best/most approppriate specs, however, Whilst i am more than just a little handy with the tools i decided that i would fit it myself and it was not as easy as they would have you believe. I was able to fit it however what should have taken no more than an hour ended up being 3 hours. I would advise you get someone else to fit it if you are not to handy on the tools, ie let them have the headache LOL
PS if you want to more details on the problem i had just PM me.
    good luck

As mentioned earlier, I have no problem with the standard D4 hitch, however I did put the Mitch Hitch on my D3 and found it to be a great advantage over the OEM. Had mine colour coded. Looked good.
    Cheers, Craig
