I believe the flasher can is behind the instrument binnacle. There are about four relays all mounted off the fire wall.
Just undo the instrument panel and move it to one side and you should be able to see them. No need to remove the entire dash.
Ok. so now the blinkers on my 1998 Defender 300Tdi are not working.
Blinker fuses are all ok (left and right 5amp each) - but I need some help. I was just using a test light and when I have the key turned off, there is power running through the actual blinker arm. Is this right? The end button for the horn works when the key is not in the ignition. Is this right?
The blinker arm has always been a bit loose since I picked up the car. I have replaced just about everything else so could it just be the blinker switch?
What about the flasher unit? Where does this hide?
Everything else works and I have checked all the fuses.
Thanks
Andrew

My blinker switch was physically broken when I got my 110 - the part that clamps it to the steering column. From memory when I did a bit of research it was a common problem.
Didn't actually stop the blinkers working, but perhaps it depends where the break is. Its pretty easy to get to once you've got the steering wheel off if you want to check (and you'll also be able to bypass the switch for testing).

School me on bypassing the blinker switch. I have disconnected the plugs and on the plug from the main harness, using a test light I get power from one wire (with the ignition off). Do I just connect this live wire to the others in the plug (via a test wire) and see if the blinkers light up?
Should the ignition be on or off when I do this test?
Cheers

Thanks Kelvin
I have just ordered a new blinker switch so I should have that by tomorrow. The current blinker switch does feel very loose and sloppy so I am hoping that is the problem. I have recently replaced the headlight switch and the wiper switch so it probably feels left out.

Basically thats what I'd be doing.
Its only indicators, horn and hi/lo beam on the switch - so work out the 3 wires involved for the indicators and just make the connection between the appropriate ones using a test wire.
Yes - ignition should be on.
Or Weeds offer is even easier :-)

May or may not help, but when the blinkers were playing up in my 88 County, is was due to the hazzard light switch. The blinkers are routed through that at some point. Replaced the switch, fixed the problem.
if all the other functions work,, id say its not the inedrcator but the relay,, mine died on my fender and was only a cracked solder in the relay,,, id do that first, mine was the same,, lost all and the hazzar switch didnet work eather, was all down to the relay
check the hazard light switch first, and once you have that off all the pins you need to diagnose everything related to the indicators is available from the one plug.
