    Service Opinions

Well, the PUMA is up to 9500 k's - so the first service is soon to be done.

Should I take it to the Land Rover specialist ? Who charges the premium dollars, should I go to the 4x4 specialist nearby, or should the local garage be the destination............

I had a quote from the LR specialist when i first purchased, that was $650 ish I believe ........And for what actually gets done, I am not sure if its worth it.

    Opinions please...........

    Cheers

First service for a Puma in Australia is not due until 20 thousand km though an oil change is a good idea. While a service can be carried out by any qualified mechanic, it may make it much easier if the dealer does it if you have a warranty issue. First service (A Service) is little more than replace and top up fluids. If you are concerned that the service is not done properly or that there are issues that the dealer may not pick up, then go to a LR specialist to do a check and report for you rather than to do the work, then go to the dealer with the report.

You have at least three LR-specialist options around Newcastle:

    The dealer
    4x4 at Kotara
    Modern Motors at Dungog

I think I'd use one of those.

I'd go to the dealer. They'll hopefully check anything else which may be a problem and it keeps any claims tidy.

For 2007+ Defenders, first service due at 20K km or 12 months which ever comes first, unless used in arduous conditions. Check your documentation or with your dealer, Pat. You may also may like to look here: Regular Maintenance | Land Rover Australia

Dealers will recommend that, service interval are at 12,000km, based on Australian condition. All of my services have been at 12,000k increments.

While the vehicle is in the warranty period I would pay the extra $$ and take it to a dealer.

Build a good relationship with your service consultant and you will be surprised how much easier thing will get done.

If you can demonstrate full service history at LR Dealers and if something does go wrong just out of warranty it is likely they will honour the repair, they may not if your service record is not by LandRover.

My ex dealer recommends every 10000 km for a service.I think this is so he can suck another $500+ out of me even though all the boxes on the service sheet are ticked as done, most items are not such as oil levels checked and uni's greased. It seems to be more important to fill the washer bottle up than do what they are supposed to do.

Thanks for the replies. I was aware that the latest info is 20 thousand k's, and am also aware of all the local dealers - so cheers.

The guys at Dungog will replace "all the oils" and the labour will be 3 hours......... They cost this at $675 all up.

I will check with the LR people (Hunter LandRover) as to if they replace "all the oils"......... and double check their price...... I have one minor warranty issue (door seal) and also a possible issue with using water or a leak in the radiator system somewhere, (gradual decrease in water in fill tank). So I reckon the option will be to go there for this service.....

Not a bad exercise to go through anyway. And I am a firm believer that no matter what the book says, A service every 10,000 is a good option for longevity.

Once again thanks to all for your input.
