    difference between LT77 or R 380

Whats the differnece betwene these two boxes?

And what would be the best behind a 200TDi and infront of a Series 3 transfer case and vehicle ? (mated via an ashcroft conversion kit)

The R380 is 30mm longer than the LT77, but if you can find an R380 off a 200Tdi Defender they are shorter than the Disco version (and the selector mechanism/gearstick is in the correct place for the Series/Defender shape.)

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    The 380 is better

The Lt77 has a problem with the lay shaft that gives them back lash. Seen people send thousands to fix the box only to have the same problem 4 months later on. Although saying that I have had a few LT77 and still good boxes once you get used to the back lash but if given the choice I would go for a R380

The LT 77 is not quite as strong and has reverse up alongside 1st and the R380 has it under 5th.

As far as I am aware, in Aust the R380 was not fitted to the 200tdi - was introduced with the 300tdi and serpentine 3.9 in the discos/defender.

So the LT 77 will definitely fit a 200tdi - but the R380 is a better box. As indicated the Defender version has a shorter bell housing.
