Free with overdrive!

Well through chance we have been given a Series 11a SWB by a good friend. It came with an overdrive he purchased for his Series 11. Apparently the owner had been trying to sell it for a while and just wanted to get rid of it so included it with the overdrive.
It has a holden engine it, which appears to be seized. There are no plugs in it so i suspect moisture has got down the bores. I don't want to investigate too far because this is a good enough reason to replace it with a landy engine.
The bulkhead has already been changed some time ago, but rust is coming through in places on the new one already. In fact there is plenty of rust so i think I will be looking for a donor vehicle for chassis and engine.
On a good note the body work is straight, the brakes aren't seized and it seems complete.
I can't find the chassis number on the RH front hanger and my friend has the plate out of it at the moment so I can't give any more details.
I intend to get the body off so I can have a good look at the state of the chassis and then make a decision whether to try and repair or replace the chassis.
In the end we are wanting a reliable daily driver, and a fun vehicle to take up the beach and into the bush.

Not really sure how long it is going to take as I have to juggle the rebuild with work/family/camping etc. but I am certainly looking forward to the whole process.
No doubt there will be plenty of questions to ask.

Assuming it is an Australian built one, you won't find the chassis number on the RH front spring hanger - it should be on the LH rear back spring hanger just above the shackle.

We have got the chassis number off the plate. The chassis number is:24319403G and the Vehicle Number is: 24309221B.

Thanks for the offer Dave, but just crawling under the vehicle it is evident the chassis needs some major repair work. There is plenty of rust in the chassis and in most other places that will rust! All part of the experience!

The first chassis number is right for the grille (1969-71) but the second is from a 1965ish model (probably came with the bulkhead, unless it's stamped in the chassis). CalVIN can tell you exactly.

I have been spending some time reading through posts by Banjo and Isuzutoo-eh ans got motivated to update this thread.
The shorty has now been stripped down. The chassis needs some serious work; rear crossmember, gearbox cross-member, most out-riggers, front dumb-irons and the front cross member has also been cut to accomodate the Holden engine.
Not having access to welding equipment, I would have to pay to get the chassis repaired a galv chassis from the UK was looking a better option, but the cost was a bit scary.
